Instagram has no download button, and screen recording a Reel costs you a generation of quality along with whatever the recorder decided to do with the audio. Pasting the share link here fetches the actual video file behind the post instead, at the resolution Instagram encoded it.
Reels, feed videos and old IGTV posts all use the same link format and are handled the same way. The vertical 9 by 16 frame of a Reel is kept intact, so nothing is letterboxed or cropped to fit a landscape shape.
How to download an Instagram Reel
Find the Reel or video post you want in the app or on the web.
Tap the three dots or the paper plane icon, then choose Copy link.
Press Fetch. The thumbnail confirms the right post loaded.
Pick a quality and download. The vertical frame is preserved.

Public posts only
This is the one real limitation. Instagram serves private accounts, close friends posts and stories only to logged-in, approved viewers. A downloader working anonymously never sees them. If a link fails, the quickest check is to open it in a private browser window. If you cannot watch it there while logged out, it cannot be fetched here either.
Carousels and multiple clips
A carousel post with several videos returns the first video in the post. To grab a specific clip from a carousel, open it in the app, use Share and Copy link on that individual item where Instagram offers it.
Saving the audio from a Reel
Switching to MP3 pulls the audio out on its own. That is useful for saving a trending sound, though remember the audio in a Reel is often a licensed music track and is not yours to redistribute. The same applies on TikTok.

Can I download from a private account?
No. Private posts are only served to approved followers who are signed in, so no anonymous tool can reach them.
Do Instagram Stories work?
No. Stories require a logged-in session and expire after 24 hours.
Will the uploader know I downloaded their Reel?
No. Instagram does not notify anyone about downloads, and nothing about your visit is sent to the account.
Why did my link fail?
The usual causes are a private account, a deleted post or a link copied from a story rather than a Reel. Open the link while logged out to check whether it is genuinely public.
Can I download photos?
No. This tool handles video and audio. Photo-only posts return nothing to download.
Is the quality reduced?
No. You get the file Instagram serves. Instagram itself compresses uploads, so the source is the ceiling.
